Dus; we're married, we're packed for Spain, Jacob's fed, bathed and asleep, the taxi is ordered for 4.00am tomorrow morning and there are two, TWO!, amsterdammetjes in the cupboard! What more could you ask for?
Photos and details of the wedding after we get back from our holidays in the second week of September.
Dooei!

Vital Statistics
Yet another visit to the consultatiebureau where Jacob once again impressed with his amazing ability to see straight, pick up small objects and shove them in his mouth quicker-than-a-doctor-can-say "oh well done, oh no! ", wriggle on the scales and fart strategically. Not to mention the now infamous unblinking-stare which is unleashed on doctors as they administer injections. Very unerving!
And for the number-crunchers; height - 76.5 cms, weight - 9.155 kilos
They've stopped measuring his head but I asked them to do it anyway since I'm busy knitting him beanies at the moment and its handy to know! 47 cms.
PS. On the wedding front, the wedding cake from Pattersons, in Melbourne, arrived today and looke lovely! My mouth is watering just looking at it! A real fruitcake! And I still don't have anyhting to wear! Other than that everything has fallen into place and is mainly organising itself.

Extreme Bride
After a lovely relaxing weekend where we found the perfect suit for Ronnie to get married in on Saturday and spent a gezellig afternoon under some gorgeous trees doing "culcha" with Jeanette, Isa and Loek on Sunday, Monday was a bit different. This whole getting-hitched business is beginning to feel like a bit of an extreme-brides affair. Ron and Jacob are now all kitted out and I don't have A THING TO WEAR! The rings are ordered but THEY HAVEN'T TURNED UP! The restaurant is booked but I SAID FISH! And the weather is threatening to go all Dutch and RAIN!
Dus, time to relax and remember how it all seemed so easy three weeks ago when we set out on this path and that this time next week I'll be an honest woman sitting on a terrace in Bilbao guzzling my wine with nothing much to do for two weeks except make it to Madrid!
But just what does an honest woman do with her time?

Gefeliciteerd!
Jaap and Edmee have just announced that they are pregnant! Edmee is due at the end of January and it is just about the best-most-exciting-news we have had in ages. (Except for us getting married that is!)
It is also a brilliant solution to the I-need-another-baby-to-bully-with-home-made-beanies problem that was looming on my horizon and I think it is very sweet of both Jaap and Edmee to go to so much trouble! Now, a pink and a blue umbilical chord hat and then what!

Black Ban
We are slowly inching our way back to Melbourne, if only in bureaucratic terms at this point in time but we expect sometime next year to be ready to move back.
And then I read this sort of thing.
Wearing colours and pastels? Dus, out with the atlas schatje, we're finding somewhere else to move to!

We are making some progress on the knitting front. The Kittyville L'il Devil Baby Hat is coming along nicely. You can't rush these things you know. And I have made some progress with the boring-blue-jacket for Jacob and am now onto an astonishingly broad arm!
But better yet I have found the perfect pattern for the scrumptious ball of Rowan Cork Delight that I bought at the Afstap a couple of weeks ago. In this he will be practically edible!
I've always firmly believed that it is impossible to own too many hats and Jacob is going to be living proof!

heat wave?
Its official! we are having a heat wave.
Holland has an official definition of a heat wave, if the temperature in De Bilt is above 25 degrees C for five days in a row (don't laugh) and three of those days also reach 30 degrees, then what you have is a heat wave!
Actually I can see now why they need the definition, otherwise you might miss it!
Since 1901 there have been 35 of these 'heat waves", which averages roughly to one every three years. This would explain why you never have that feeling of having had a summer here, just very pleasant springs!
So as of today, we are having a heat wave! Its all predicted to come to an end tomorrow though.

saturday afternoon
A lazy Saturday afternoon was spent walking around Amsterdam, criss-srossing the path of the Pride Parade. Jacob not being one to stand for being stationary for long periods we took a preambulating approach to the Parade. Combined with some window-shopping in the '9-straatjes' and a pit-stop at one of our favourite brown cafes, we wound up the afternoon in a very relaxed manner on Frans Hals straat with Jacob asleep under the trees and us sitting back enjoying some relaxed people-watching and the odd cooling beer or glass of wine.
Around the parade this year has been much discussion of Amsterdam's losing ground as the Gay Capital of Europe. It is grumbled that Barcelona, Paris, London, Berlin have not only become more attractive destinations for gay tourists but are also actively pursuing the "gay dollar", something that the City of Amsterdam in its latest bid to distance itself from the sleaze-tourist is reluctant to do. It seems somehow that to promote yourself as a cultural destination precludes promoting yourself to gay travellers? And the medal for blind optimism must go to the guy who made the observation that while people might be going to London for the parties and the music, Amsterdam still has the "gezelligheid"!

Genius
Last night Jacob again tested the boundaries of genius. All by himself he came up with the idea of putting his trousers ON HIS HEAD! He then turned to us with possibly the biggest smile in the universe, bursting with pride and only-just-controlled-giggles and waited for the rounds of applause. Which of course he got.
After subsiding into uncontrollable gorgeous-baby-giggles he picked himself up off the floor and DID IT AGAIN! Like 15 times.
The future is in safe hands.

Ta - da!
Finally, a decent version of the Unbillical Chord Hat! This one's in Rowan's Kid Classic Pinched and not bad looking at all, even if I do say so myself. Its for Analu. I also have a gorgeous orange ball of Rowan's Cork Delight which has Jacob's name written all over it, just have to decide which hat it is to be. The colour is so yummy its almost edible!
