the sacrifices we make....
Australian-Grandma has left for Glasgow to attend a conference. The whole reason for her being here after all, although you might be excused for thinking that the reason for her being here was to prepare food for Jacob!
The book of recipes for babies and toddlers, Annabel Karmel's New Complete Baby and Toddler Meal Planner. at which earlier, I'm sure she had smirked, has been plundered and the freezer is full of baby-safe versions of spaghetti bolognese, lentil soup, beef stroganoff etc etc. We couldn't help noticing that the small pots she uses for our usual Lemon Delicious treat had been used to freeze something for Jacob. Nor that this visit, while we do get dinner every evening, we haven't been plyed with all the delicious deserts and cakes that we have become accustomed too.
Whereas Jacob.....................

head-banging
Last night Jacob was standing in his playpen, hanging onto the side as he does now very proudly at every opportunity, when suddenly he released both hands, yawned and lifted his hands to rub his eyes, leaning his head back in the process.
So, now I know the diameter of the playpen, (which is round). because Jacob was measured yesterday at the consultatiebureau and he is now 74.5 cms, and he only just missed hitting the other-side of the playpen with his head as he fell like a tree flat on his back. And thank god I've been too disorganised to have removed the extra covering from the floor of the playpen. (I put it there to keep it out of the dust of all the moving)
Even so, he broke his fall with his head and its not something I want to see again, though I'm sure I will. I think I'll buy him a little helmet to wear indoors.

A quiet weekend
This weekend we;
-moved all the final things from the old flat (only five car loads)
-unpacked all the owners belongings and re-arranged them around the flat
-cleaned the flat
-emptied the attic
-squeezed it all into our new flat
-picked up Grandma-from-Australia from the airport
Meanwhile Jacob was busy;
-suddenly taking to waving at people as they enter and leave rooms
-standing up,
-falling down,
-drinking from a cup,
-trying Vegemite for the first time,
-standing up
-eating eggs
-falling down
-standing up

Sicily
Dus, we are back from Sicily, a day later than planned and a lot poorer after missing our booked flight back to Amsterdam and having to buy another at short notice.
Jacob is sporting a tan and one white tooth, just like a lot of the Sicilians who made such a fuss of him all week! He also seems to have grown several inches in one week!
More to come later.................
