summer.........finally!

eindelijk zommer!
About six weeks ago I mentioned that summer seemed to have finally arrived. This proved to be hopelessly premature as it has rained virtually every day since then and been horribly cold.

But NOW, finally, maybe it has happenned. The weekend was gorgeous, tempartures 25 to 30 degrees and today and the next two days are expected to be the same. It may not be a heat wave but it will do! Finally some time outdoors and mayeb I'll even lose that special shade of office-white!

bennie's asphalt plant

My brother Ben built a shed and then an asphalt plant. We visited his asphalt plant last time we were back in Australia. OK so its not his personal asphalt plant but it's still like having the biggest tonka truck sand-pit you ever dreamed of.

the photos of the shed are yet to come....

raising the dead

As if he didn't do enough to unsettle everyone when he was alive Pim Fortuyn (although I don't think this was his idea...), maintains the tradition after his own death.

As I understand it Fortuyn wanted to be buried in Italy in the small town where he owned a house. For whatever reason, (and I'm sure it had nothing to do with an upcoming election and the impact on nationalistic supporters of shipping the dear-departed off to another country....or maybe I'm just too cynical?) he was first buried here in the Netherlands and now six weeks or so later, is being exhumed to be re-buried where he wanted, in Italy.

This is not the unsettling bit. The unsettling bit, at least for me, is that this is going to televised. Yup! Live to air exhumations. And I thought my weblog might be polluting the ether!

almost berlin

Berlin was just never meant to happen.

Back in April we decided to go to the Love Parade
in Berlin in July. From the start it has been one of those trips where before you even left home you've been having a hard time. Nothing was straightforward, nothing went right the first time.

hasitha and dilini's wedding

Our friend Hasitha was married last June in Sri Lanka. He and his wife, Dilini,
are now living in Melbourne, happily ever after! We weren't able to go to the wedding but they did send us some wonderful photos.

valkenburg

Ron and I went down to Valkenberg for the weekend where his parents are taking their zommer vakantie. Valkenberg is unusually pretty for a dutch town, it has the benefit of hills and trees and hence is also very popular. It is the perfect place from which to go on walks or bike rides through the countryside.

Coincidentally it was also the first weekend of summer weather (25 -20 celcius)that we've had this year so it was very pleasant to be able to be outside again, warm, sunny, blue skies, heaven!
